Baggage allowance on flights

What is the baggage allowance on my flight?

Charter and scheduled flight hold luggage restrictions vary, usually between 20kg and 23kg per person. With charter flights, your luggage allowance may be different from the allowance quoted on the airline website:

TUI, Charter

  • Premium Economy: Hold Luggage - 2 x bags, total maximum weight 28kg (each bag no more than 23kg). Hand Baggage - 10kg.
  • Economy: 1 x bag, maximum 23kg. Hand Baggage - 10kg.

Norse Atlantic Airways, Charter

  • Premium: Hold Luggage: 28kg (each bag no more than 23kg). Hand Baggage - 10kg.
  • Economy: Hold Luggage - 23kg. Hand Baggage - 10kg.

Virgin Atlantic, Charter

  • Upper Class: Hold Luggage - 2 x 23kg bags. Hand Baggage - 10kg.

If your airline allowance exceeds 23kg, we ask that no individual item of luggage weighs more than 23kg for the ship's crew to handle it safely.

Please visit the Flights page of My P&O Cruises to confirm your allowance or check your flight confirmation email.

Baggage allowance for infants and children

Children and infants are entitled to a full luggage allowance on some charter flights, including TUI Airways, Norse Atlantic Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Your party's full luggage allowance can be found on your flight confirmation. Click here for more information on flying with children and infants.

Hand luggage

Hand baggage restrictions vary by flight. Please adhere to your airline's guidelines, which can be found on their website. We recommend you visit the gov.uk website for the latest advice and restrictions regarding hand luggage at UK airports.

For all chartered flights, the hand luggage allowance is on your flight confirmation. Typically, you can bring one small bag up to 10kg and one small personal item (like a small handbag, laptop bag, briefcase or camera bag). The only exception is the airline Enter Air, which allows only one small bag up to 5 kg.

For Caribbean fly-cruises with our 'bonded baggage' service, we suggest you pack essentials like medication, a toothbrush, and a change of clothes for warmer weather in your hand luggage, since your checked luggage may not be delivered to your cabin until later after you arrive on board.

Booking extra baggage on your flight

Please speak to your airline or visit their website for more information on booking or purchasing additional baggage. P&O Cruises can add on baggage for medical reasons. Please complete your On-Board Needs Questionnaire via My P&O Cruises to let us know or get in touch with us to confirm this. All other baggage is managed through your airline.

Transporting luggage from the aircraft to the ship

How your luggage is transported from the aircraft to the ship on P&O Cruises fly-cruise holidays depends on whether you travel on a chartered or scheduled flight.

Charter flights

We're pleased to be able to offer a seamless service known as 'bonded baggage' on selected chartered flights. You should ensure that all your baggage has a P&O Cruises luggage label attached before you check in at the airport.

Caribbean fly-cruises

On our chartered flights to the Caribbean on a P&O Cruises fly-cruise holiday we're pleased to be able to offer a seamless service known as ‘bonded baggage' on TUI Airways, Norse Atlantic Airways and Virgin Atlantic.

When you arrive in the Caribbean on a charter flight, you do not need to pass through immigration or collect your checked luggage; coaches will be waiting to transfer you directly to the cruise terminal. All checked baggage will be unloaded from the aircraft and taken directly to the ship, where it will be screened and delivered to your cabin.

Make sure you've got the essentials packed in your hand luggage for your first few hours on board. This includes any medication, a change of clothes and a swimsuit if you fancy a dip in the pool. The luggage you check in may arrive at your cabin much later than you arrive on board.

For more information on bonded baggage, please visit our blog.

Please note: your baggage transportation details for disembarkation will be communicated on board.

Scheduled flights

If you're travelling on a scheduled flight, when you arrive at your destination you’ll need to pass through immigration, collect your luggage from Baggage Reclaim, and then proceed through to Arrivals. If you booked your flight through P&O Cruises and you’re arriving on the day of sailing or you’ve booked a hotel stay through us, there’ll be a P&O Cruises representative to meet you, who will give you instructions for joining your coach transfer to the cruise terminal.

If you’ve arranged your own flights or you’re flying out to your destination early, you must make your own way to the cruise terminal.

The baggage arrangements for your inbound flight to the UK will be confirmed during your cruise. Baggage is usually collected from outside your cabin the night before you disembark.
