What do the cabin grades mean?

Each cabin has a unique two-letter code that reveals its type, size, features, and location on the ship. This guide will break down the codes and help you find the perfect cabin for your cruise.

Second character of the code: a number (Suites only)

Our Suites are usually on the middle decks but they might also be on upper decks on some of our ships. The second character is a number (instead of a letter) and it refers to the Suite’s position on each deck of the ship, as shown in the table below.

Location Second character of the code
Midship 1
Mid Forward 2
Mid Aft 3
Aft 4 and 5
Forward 5 and 6

For our Penthouse Suites, which we have on Aurora, Azura and Ventura, we always use the code A1. Please note that the second character here (number 1) doesn’t refer to the location: all our Penthouses are in the forward or aft positions on the ship’s upper decks.

Location explained

When we talk about locations on our ships, this is what we mean:

  • Rear, or back, of the ship - Aft
  • Between the rear and centre - Mid Aft
  • Middle of the ship - Midship
  • Between the front and centre - Mid
  • Forward Front of the ship - Forward

How to locate your chosen cabin

Once you know the code and its colour, you can find it on the ship’s deck plan. You’ll find deck plans on the following links:

For more information on choosing cabins on board, please view our article ‘How to choose a cabin in a specific location of the ship'

What do the symbols mean?

You’ll notice a range of symbols in a list of ‘Cabin Notes’ on each deck plan. Along with the different colours mentioned above, these indicate slight differences in the types of cabins on board, depending on which ship you’re looking at. Be sure to check these notes and symbols if you need a specific set-up or feature.
