Head to the town park in the centre of Alesund and climb the south wall of the town’s mountain, on the Via Ferrata. This assisted climbing system is a fantastic way to climb a mountain, using a network of fixed steel cables that you clip your harness into. Experience isn’t necessary, but you will need the strength and endurance to pull yourself up vertical rock faces and climb over rough terrain. Your 250-metre climb takes you to the city’s best viewpoint for amazing vistas over the town, ocean and snow-capped Sunnmøre Alps.
