During WW2 the German battleship Tirpitz, the world’s largest battleship at the time, was stationed in the village for almost two years. The museum is dedicated to war-related history, with an emphasis on Tirpitz and its links to Kåfjord. Then visit Alta’s oldest church, the neo-Gothic Kåfjord English Church. Built in long-church style in 1836, its origins trace back to the start of the local copper mines. You’ll also make a photo stop for amazing panoramas of the fjord.
