It’s just a short walk to the beach where you’ll meet your kayak guides, before setting out across the sheltered waters of the Bay of Islands, to Waitangi Estuary. Silently gliding through the mangrove forest, your guide will unveil the complex ecosystem and point out the wondrous wildlife. You’ll be regaled with local legends and lore, as you continue up the estuary to the base of spectacular Haruru Falls, New Zealand’s first river port and an aramoana (sea road) for the inland Maori tribes. Paddle near under the falls, before taking break at a picnic area.
