Head off to the Airboat Adventure Outpost, where following a short safety briefing and orientation you’ll board a 450-horsepower airboat. There truly is no better way to explore hundreds of acres of open marshland lined on all sides by mangroves. Experience the wind in your hair as your boat zips across the water. At Almond Hill Lagoon the engine will be cut and you’ll quietly drift in the hope of spotting some local wildlife.
Back on dry land enjoy a typical Garifuna show, with singing, percussion and dancing. The Garifuna ethnic group is of African and Amerindian descent originating from fugitive slaves who were welcomed into local communities. This dance is a unique tradition, with drummers and dancer merging in a single performance where each single step has a precise meaning. In 2001, UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) declared the Garifuna culture a 'Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity'.
