Kick things off with a relaxing drive around Bodø and take in the highlights of this charming city, before venturing out into the beautiful surrounding landscapes and crossing the striking Saltstraumen Bridge. Then take a short walk down to the water for an up-close look at this natural wonder. Every six hours, up to 400 million cubic metres of seawater squeeze through this narrow channel, which is only three kilometres long and 1.5 kilometres wide – creating swirling whirlpools (or maelstroms) up to 10 metres across and five metres deep. It’s a breath-taking display, with water speeds up to 25 mph.
