A scenic drive takes you through the heart of the Cotentin Peninsula, renowned for its lush green pastures and apple orchards where Calvados, the fine apple brandy, is made.
Upon arrival into Bayeux, enjoy audioguided visit to the Bayeux Tapestry Museum. The Bayeux or Queen Mathilda Tapestry is approximately 219 feet long and recounts the Norman Conquest of England. Its 58 scenes portray a wealth of details – from court life to the actual invasion, culminating in William’s decisive victory at Hastings. The work is considered as the most accurate and lively document to survive from the middle ages, and provides detailed information on clothes, ships, arms and general lifestyle of the period.
Discover the town of Bayeux, William the Conqueror’s favourite city, on a guided walking tour. Captured by allied forces on D-Day, the town escaped significant war damage. View well preserved medieval and Renaissance buildings and visit the massive Norman Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame, completed in 1077. There will also be some limited free time to explore independently, before the return drive to Cherbourg.
