After a short drive to the centre of Puerto Plata, passing by colourful architecture, you’ll arrive at the Macorix Rum Factory. Gain an insight into the production of one of the most popular rums in the country. Next, visit the Gregorio Luperon Museum, built to commemorate General Luperon, the Army General and politician who was influential in restoring Dominican independence from Spain in 1863.  Continue your tour with a drive along the Malecón (promenade) towards the San Felipe Fortress and hear how the fortress was built in 1564 to protect the city from pirate attacks. Now it’s time to explore the more cultural side of the city by exploring on foot with your guide.  You’ll visit some of the smaller art galleries, artisan shops and the San Felipe Cathedral at Plaza Independencia (former Central Park). Afterwards, lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
