Duration
6:00 Hours
Sit back and relax as your day starts with a leisurely drive to the town of Luperon Village, La Isabela. Now a National Park, La Isabela was one of the first European settlements in America and was founded by Christopher Columbus during his 2nd voyage in 1493. Stop by the Gregorio Luperon statue and walk around the local park with a short visit to the local church.
Afterwards, drop by the local museum to learn how the native Taino people lived. On display are tools and utensils used for hunting and fishing alongside replica huts and examples of typical crops. La Isabela was destroyed by rough weather, hurricanes and crop failures, all these drove the settlers to Santo Domingo. Take a walk around the town to see the remains of this historical settlement, including the church where the first mass in the new world was believed to be given. Enjoy a delicious Dominican lunch at a local restaurant before returning to the Pier.
