Ride through the centre of Funchal and take in spectacular harbour views as you climb higher and higher out of town. Stop at the Terreiro da Luta Viewpoint and admire the Our Lady of Peace monument, and climb over the Poiso Pass (1,413m) to see the island’s the third highest peak, Pico do Arieiro. Stop at the Engenho do Norte distillery in Porto da Cruz, and after learning how they make rum, sample a tasty rum shot including some Madeira Honey biscuits. Then take in more magical views at the Ponta do Garajau Viewpoint, where the Christ the Redeemer statue opens its arms.
