Travel north to Loch Lomond, crossing the Highland Boundary Fault into some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery. Enjoy views of Ben Lomond before reaching the flower bedecked lochside village of Luss, for a short shop. Driving on through Glen Croe and Glen Kinglas , before the road descends to Loch Fyne, famous for its oysters. Skirting the Loch, you’ll arrive at Inveraray town over a hump-backed bridge. This is where you’ll get your first glimpse of the sophisticated façade of Inveraray Castle.
Enjoy free time to explore the lovely estate town of Inveraray, with its distinctive white and black buildings and intriguing shops. Afterwards, you’ll head to a local hotel for lunch.
Following lunch, you’ll visit the castle. Built on the site of a 15th century fortress, Inveraray castle dates from 1770 and is the seat of the Duke of Argyll, head of Clan Campbell. Fine tapestries and artefacts collected over generations, including china and fine furniture, render the breathtaking interior as beautiful and sumptuous as the surrounding gardens.
Your return journey is via the scenic Cowal Peninsula. The ferry across the Clyde provides a mountainous backdrop before you arrive at Greenock.
