Hop into a charming little boat and cruise out to Melrakkaey, a small, protected island famous for its huge colony of summering Atlantic puffins. Sailing close to the coastline, you’ll get a front-row seat to admire these cute little birds lining up on the cliffs. Circumnavigating this tiny island, which is a haven for myriad seabirds, you’re likely to see a variety of other species, including guillemots, shags and kittiwakes. Then on your return, soak up majestic views of the peculiarly shaped Mt Kirkjufell and the impressive Helgrindur mountain range, which make for a spectacular backdrop to quaint Grundarfjörður.
