Strolling through the remarkable ruins of Knossos, the capital of Minoan Crete, you’ll get a genuine feel for this enormous, sophisticated palace. Containing over 1,000 rooms, it boasted an elaborate drainage system, flushing toilets, and paved roads. It was also the legendary setting of the Labyrinth, designed to imprison the mythical Minotaur.
A scenic drive will take you to the famous resort of Aghios Nikolaos, nestled on the Bay of Mirabello. Interconnected by canals, it was built around the harbour and Lake Voulismeni, and is filled with an array of shops and cafés, which you’ll have some free time to explore. Then enjoy a typical Greek lunch with wine and coffee, in a local restaurant in Elounda Village.
You’ll also make a photo stop to admire Spinalonga island, a former leper colony dominated by a Venetian fortress.
