The Chi Lin Nunnery is a large temple complex of elegant wooden architecture, treasured Buddhist relics and soul-soothing lotus ponds. The complex was established in 1934 and renovated in the Tang dynasty style in 1990. During your visit, you’ll see a series of temple halls, some of which contain gold, clay and wooden statues.
Next door to the Chi Lin Nunnery is the Nan Lian Garden, nestled amongst a myriad of high-rise apartments. Its scenic garden is meticulously landscaped and provides a moment of tranquillity away from the hectic pace of Hong Kong.
A typical wet market in Hong Kong is where the locals go on a daily basis to buy the freshest fruits, vegetables and live poultry or fish. This vivid and colourful experience will offer you a glimpse into the daily life of a person living in Hong Kong, that refuses to be superseded by modern means.
Dim sum was invented for the pleasure of the Emperor and is a popular meal for the locals. Imagine yourself as an Emperor as you indulge in a delicious Dim sum lunch served at a local Chinese restaurant.
Half of the population of Hong Kong resides in mass public housing provided by the government for lower-income residents. A home visit to a Public House in the city will provide you with a unique insight into local home life.
