Take a guided walk through Vågen, Kristiansund’s traditional harbour, passing statues dedicated to the klipfish (salt cod) industry and the Patrick Volckmar Trading House, now a coffee roasting plant and café. Watch old boats being repaired in the Mellemvaerftet Shipbuilding Museum, and stop into the Norwegian Klipfish Museum. It’s said that Kristiansund was founded on klipfish, and this interesting museum charts the industry’s history with exhibits, photos and knowledgeable guides. You’ll also have a chance to taste Bacalo, (Spanish for cod). Then cruise back to the pier on the iconic Sundbåt harbour ferry, which has been operating here since 1876.
