Starting at the quay, you’ll walk past Malakoff, an old military camp that hosts an annual rock festival for up to 30,000 people, and see several memory stones dedicated to lost Norwegian soldiers, including the Grieving Mother. You’ll pass a collection of pretty wooden homes, between Eid Church and the modern Opera House, and stop for a coffee and local pastry. Then travel back to the Viking Age at the Sagastad Visitor Centre. Filled with engaging digital and physical exhibitions, it’s also home to the Myklebust Viking Ship, a reconstruction of the largest Viking ship ever found.
