Enjoy a scenic drive to the northeast coast and take a kayak trip to Ile d’Ambre (Ambre Island), one of the country’s last wild sanctuaries. Hop into your kayak and paddle around 300 metres to the island’s mangroves, and follow the narrow channels while learning about the ecosystem. Dive in and snorkel in the mangroves for close-up views of the elaborate roots and resident juvenile fish, with another chance to swim and snorkel in the dazzling lagoon. Then walk to the other side of the islet and explore the 18th-century ruins, while hearing about the island’s history and early inhabitants.
