Discover the charming village of Alberobello and its intriguing cone-shaped buildings, on this captivating guided walk.
As you enter this fairly-tale village you’ll get superb panoramic views from Terrazzino Belvedere, over Aia Piccola and its 400 circular, pointy houses, or trulli.
Known as the ‘Trulli Capital’, Alberobello was founded in the 16th century. Due to a heavy tax on buildings, the local peasants built circular houses without using mortar. When the tax inspectors came, the peasants simply took their houses apart – then rebuilt them after the collectors had gone. Today, this fascinating village is a UNESCO Site.
You’ll make your way through Rione Monti, the Old Town, which boasts more than1,030 trulli – most of which are still used as private houses. And you’ll even find a trullo church, Saint Anthony, with a cone-shaped roof that soars to almost 20 metres.
Afterwards, you’ll have some free time to explore on your own. You can admire the artisan workshops and step inside a typical trullo house to see its unique architectural style and structure.
