Tropical Garden and Nature Reserve
Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago
moderate
3:00 Hours
Embark on a drive along Claude Noel Highway, before turning off onto Plymouth Road, passing several residential areas. A stop will be made at one of Tobago’s greatest secrets - the Mysterious Tombstone of Mrs Betty Stiven, who died on 25th November 1783. Read and see if you can unlock the riddle of the inscription. Nearby is Fort James where the 1 remaining original coral-stone building and four cannons sit on a manicured headland overlooking Turtle Beach and Great Courland Bay.
The highlight of your tour is a visit to the Tropical Garden and Nature Reserve, a 12 acre working organic estate, growing citrus, mangoes, bananas, papaya, guavas and many other tropical fruits. 2 acres have been set aside to create a bird paradise where birds are fed daily. There’s a covered area with feeding station for observing the breath taking plumage of hummingbirds, parakeets, blue tanagers and many more varieties. Keep an eye out on the ground too, as you may be lucky enough to spot an endangered iguana!
As you journey back to ship along the beautiful coast of Tobago, a brief photo stop will be made at the Mt. Irvine Bay Golf Course.
