The sheltered waters around the city are perfect for sightseeing by RIB (rigid inflatable boat) and your expert captain knows all the best areas for spotting native wildlife. Pausing in various locations along the way, you’ll hear stories about famous sights such as the monument to those who lost their lives when the German battleship, Tirpitz, was sunk near Håkøya Island.
Keep an eye out for eagles in the sky and porpoises in the water as you jet across its surface towards Ryøya Island. Landing is prohibited but, as you near the shore, you might see the musk oxen herd that lives here. Standing up to five feet tall at the shoulder and sometimes measuring over eight feet in length, these thick-furred creatures have long, curved horns and look like something straight out of Middle Earth.
