Enjoy a leisurely journey through the ancient Norwegian city of Trondheim and its charming surroundings.

Sit back and let the enchanting sights of one of Norway's oldest cities come to you, on this relaxing journey. As you travel towards the busy city centre, you’ll find a statue in Market Square of Viking king Olav Tryggvason, who founded the city in 997 AD. The Square is also home to Scandinavia’s largest gothic-style church, the 12th-century Nidaros Cathedral.

A series of disastrous fires struck Trondheim’s wooden buildings, a common threat to many Norwegian towns. Fortunately, much of the town was reconstructed in the late 17th century and most of these buildings are still standing – including Norway’s largest wooden building – Stiftsgaarden.

As you make your way to a viewpoint high above the city, you’ll get superb vistas of the city, the old fortification on the islet Munkholmen and the expansive Trondheimsfjord. Then returning to the city you’ll cross one of the many bridges over the River Nid, where you can see the colourful, picturesque warehouses that line its banks, and admire the old drawbridge.
