First Electrical Train To Historical Mine
Trondheim, Norway
moderate
4:30 Hours
Enjoy a scenic drive through the stunning landscapes of Trøndelag to the historical Løkken Mine, which was active from 1654 to 1987. On a captivating one-kilometre guided walk through the narrow corridors and large caverns, you’ll learn all about the mine that was nicknamed the ‘Cathedral of labour and toil’. Then, hop on the Thamshavn Railway for a ride back in time, on the world's oldest alternating-current-powered railway. Built to transport ore from the Løkken Mines to Orkanger Harbor, this was Norway’s first electrical railway. Enjoy a coffee as you ride in original, vintage carriages that date back to 1908.
