Keen to follow in the footsteps of pilgrims?
Some say that no visit to Galicia is complete without a trip to the capital. The beautiful medieval city of Santiago de Compostela is home to the eponymous cathedral, built to honour St James, whose remains are reputedly buried here. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s one of only three known churches in the world located over the tomb of an apostle and marks the end of the Camino route.
Marvel at the four majestic squares surrounding the main building. Your guide will explain the significance of each, including the glorious Praza do Obradoiro, a focal point for pilgrims to this day. Gaze in awe as you take time to explore the interior at your own pace and don’t miss the Portico da Gloria, a masterwork of Romanesque sculpture.
During this experience, refreshments will be served at the 15th century Parador Hostal de los Reyes Catolicos and there may be an opportunity to browse the local stalls for souvenirs.
