Situated on an oval island, the old town of Lübeck is one of the most impressive intact examples of medieval Gothic architecture. The city’s old patrician houses and red brick churches are now included on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list.
Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walk of the Altstadt (old city) and view the Holsten Gate, widely recognized as a landmark of the city and one of the few relics of the city fortress.
Pass by the City Hall, known to be one of the oldest in Germany, as well as the Buddenbrooks House, home of the famous writers Heinrich and Thomas Mann, both born in Lübeck. Another fascinating attraction that you will see is one of the 82 quaint “Wohngaenge” (alleyways), which are renowned in the town.
Following your guided walk, you will have approximately 1½ hours of free time to explore the shops and boutiques of Lübeck at leisure, or treat yourself to a slice of marzipan cake and a coffee at the world famous Cafe Niederegger.
