Sit back and relax as a journey of around 1¼ hours takes you to the medieval city of Wismar. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, Wismar boasts one of the largest market places in Northern Germany, surrounded by typical red-brick gothic buildings.

Upon arrival, embark on a guided walking tour of this quaint Hanseatic city, weaving your way along the cobbled streets complete with Gothic houses, Baroque buildings and Renaissance facades. Step back in time as your knowledgeable guide brings to life the city’s colourful history which dates back to 1229, when Wismar was amongst the first cities established in Mecklenburg.

In the Hanseatic period, the citizens of Wismar drank ‘Mumme’, a then widely acclaimed strong dark beer. Hops were cultivated in 148 hop gardens and during the 15th century there were 182 brewers, who together annually produced over 400,000 hectolitres of beer, that was shipped along well-worn trade routes to many European countries. Of course, good beer is still readily available in Wismar today and you will have the opportunity to vouch for that during a stop at a local brewery pub, dating back to the Middle Ages.

Enjoy a tasting of two different beers, one of which will be Mumme beer, accompanied by a traditional German snack, before your return journey to the ship.
